Arkham Knight combines the open-world gameplay of Assassin’s Creed, the vehicular carnage of Twisted Metal, and the best of Batman from the most recent games. It is so much fun being Batman.
You can choose from numerous missions at any time, even by stumbling upon them, and travel around the huge open city fighting bad guys from the Batman universe.
The graphics are amazing. The developers payed attention to the tiniest of details, like little droplets of water running down Batman’s gadgets as he stands in the rain. And there are fun Easter eggs you can discover too, like walking up to a prisoner who is taunting you and knocking him out, even though the screen didn’t show a “press this button to do that” message.
There’s the occasional glitch, like an enemy walking in place because he doesn’t know how to walk around a box, and the convenient gameplay “bug” that you can get enemies in some situations to disappear by triggering another part of the gameplay. (Assassin’s Creed was notorious for this…. Kill the target and suddenly the remaining bad guys don’t care about you anymore).
The only real criticism I would give the game is that you perhaps spend too much time in batmobile tank battles. I found those missions tedious and difficult, and much less enjoyable than freely gliding around the city looking for trouble.
The story is full of twists and turns and surprises, and it almost gets tiring just how long it takes to beat the game. Every time you think you’re about to get close to beating the main storyline, some new twist or change in direction happens and you have to go down another long path to move the story forward. You definitely get your money’s worth.
I highly recommend this game.
