A great continuation of the re-imagining of Lara Croft, but the writing is absolutely awful.
The game fits snugly in the current industry obsession with the survival genre, with fun requirements for crafting your own supplies and weapons. The gameplay and controls are decent but not perfectly refined. The graphics are stunning and an incredible contrast to the first Tomb Raider game that was released over 20 years ago.
But the biggest drawback is the emphasis on dramatic cutscenes that are so horribly written they take you out of the game. If the game didn’t have such a strong focus on them it would be one thing. But they aim to explain character motivations but don’t do so believably.
If you ignore the bad writing, it’s a pretty enjoyable game. Just don’t play it right after Uncharted 4 and maybe you won’t notice it so much.
